Main Aims/Objectives

The general objectives of the Curricular Design of Observation Course are: development of the basic principles of representation (taught in the previous semester - in the subject of Introduction to Drawing).

Specific Aims/Objectives

The Course Unit will always have as base the theoretical knowledge that will take the student to the practical experimentation of the drawing. At this stage, the student will be asked to apply the knowledge previously acquired. It will be of great importance the correct representation of the three-dimensionality of the objects / models in the two-dimensional space of the drawing sheet.

Skills to be acquired

1- Understand the importance of drawing the human figure in understanding the generating spaces of architectural models.
2- The student should develop the acquired abilities and, thus, can more easily accede to the study of the drawing of the human figure.
3- Human figure: the classic canons - the male and female figure.

Teaching Procedures

. The teaching methodology is based on two main groups: the theory and practice of drawing. Through the research of the work of renowned authors (always present in the context of theoretical classes), the student is guided to the understanding of the method of representation used by various authors of Architecture.
  . Through the drawing the student is introduced to the use of the capacities of knowing how to think, understand and represent objects of architecture.
  . Examples of works by author.

Programme

The Curricular Unit Program is developed through two distinct but complementary themes. On the one hand, the student will be introduced into the world of observation, fostering the education of vision and awareness of the world around us. On the other hand, it will be called to recognize this same world and to represent it on the basis of the canons established for the representation of the real.
Thus, the semester will be divided into two major groups: the first, oriented to the study of the human figure, based on the classical canons. The second, oriented to the analysis of architectural objects. It will be proposed to the student the analysis and perception of the projectual geometry, the structure, the rhythm, the filled ones and the voids, among other constituent elements of a space.
Both exercises will be based on the knowledge transmitted in theoretical classes.

Evaluation Type

The evaluation is continuous and focuses especially on the fulfillment of the proposals of work carried out during the teaching time destined to the Curricular Unit.
The student is required to complete the assignments proposed in the different evaluation moments.

Teaching Resources

- Computers with internet access;
- Specialized bibliography available in UL library;
- Indication of key texts for learning, elements for the elaboration of research works and other information deemed relevant;
- Multimedia material (documentaries, images, etc.);
- Conduct study visits, whenever considered appropriate. (To be done in extra curricular time).
