Main Aims/Objectives

Enter the issues involved in building, formalization and communication project.
Sensitize students to the relationship between the material and construction techniques associated with construction processes.
Develop in the student a critical sense, through the generic study of the building, to enable it to understand the role of the material in the formalization of an architectural discourse: the built environment as a result of technical and creative architect act.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Provide students with constructive representation of instruments and essential objective knowledge in the field of characterization of materials and techniques for the construction process for a critical and consistent use in the process / design method design and analysis / understanding of architecture.

Skills to be acquired

Ability to analyze problems and put constructive chances of constructive solutions.
Critical analysis capacity of physical and aesthetic characteristics of the material.
Capacity to interpret the role of the material in the construction of architectural space.
Analysis capacity of the behavior of materials with regard to different use requests.
Acquisition of operational instruments at the level of materiality that support the project activity.

Teaching Procedures

Presentation and critical analysis of constructed spaces, in labor and project. Survey and analysis work of an existing building for interpretation and reflection on constructive issues related to the materials and construction processes associated. Interpretation and analysis of Architecture works through its Formal and Tectonics dimension.

Programme

1. Introduction to the problem of construction.
1.1. Analysis of the design complexity of built space;
2. From project to work: introduction to issues of representation and readability of the projected space.
2.1. Representational systems.
3. Introduction to the elementary building systems:
3.1. Foundations.
3.2. Exterior walls.
3.3. Houses.

3.16. Acoustics.
3.17. Thermal.

Evaluation Type

1. Attendance;
2. Participation in the classes;
3. Accuracy and timeliness in the development of the work;
4. Accuracy and efficiency in the media used in the presentation of the work;
5. Analysis capacity and critical synthesis of the studied building;
6. Rigorous information collection of the studied building;
7. Analysis capacity and treat information held survey.

Teaching Resources

Survey work and building analysis, performed by the students, and information gathering to serve as support to the analysis and reflection on the topics covered.
Providing summaries of subjects covered during the semester, to guide the student.
Presentation works with projection images of the various stages of construction, or when it be appropriate, carry out visits to works under construction.
