Main Aims/Objectives
The purpose of the course is to sensitize students to the materiality of space, with particular emphasis on the importance of color as a defining element of the identity of an area.
The use of a certain texture, light and color results in a comfortable environment or in an environment or stress and discomfort. The participation of these elements in the built environment influences their functionality and essentially the quality of experience of its users.
Specific Aims/Objectives
The space reading is defined by sensory perception with special emphasis on the visual sense. About 80% of the information we receive is perceived by the sense of sight. Light, texture and color are key elements in understanding and experience not only the countryside but rather of built space. Spatial perception enables acquire the color information of the objective real world and is also able to influence the physical and psychological well-being.
Skills to be acquired
Consolidation of knowledge about the relationship between man and space.
Awareness to the physical / psychological layout of a given space and consequent reactions and / or inhibitions.
Understanding of color as a factor resulting from various social practices, cultural, ethnic and geographical.
Ability to analyze and evaluate the surroundings - the color as a factor in identity indoor and outdoor spaces.

1. Eminently theoretical presentation and decoding of the syllabus;
2. Eminently practical lessons to accompany the students, held around practical exercises.
Programme
STUDY OF COLOR:
- What is the color - hue, saturation and brightness,
- Contrast and color harmony,
- Physiology of color,
- Psycho-physiological effects,
- Personality and reaction to the stimulus.
PSYCHOSOMATIC EMOTIONAL ISSUES :
- Communication, perception, impression, emotional reaction,
- Impressions and associations - character or personality,
- Synesthesia - the unity of the senses.
COLOR IN THE ARCHITECTURAL:
- The color as a defining element of space,
- A sense of depth,
- The notion of texture,
- Contrast between light / shadow,
- Color and temperature,
- The identity space,
- The emotional, symbolic and cultural.
COLOR IN URBAN SPACE:
- The importance of color in the immediate analysis of an urban fragment,
- Color as a defining measure of culture, age and geographic location of an urban fragment,
- Objectives of the analysis and application of color in different built environments.
COLOR IN THE COUNTRY:
- The importance of color in the immediate analysis of a fragment rural
- Color as a defining measure of culture, age and geographic location of a fragment rural
- Objectives of the analysis and application of color in different built environments.
Evaluation Type
The evaluation is performed according to:
- General Regulations of Knowledge and Skills of Lusíada Universities;
- Specific Rules for Evaluation of Architecture Course .
In this sense, the continuous evaluation of the course will be held through two written tests that reflect the learning of content, applied to the proposed exercises.
