Main Aims/Objectives
Provide the student theoretical knowledge underlying the origin and formation of cities, seeking their understanding of evolution to its current study, by focusing on understanding of urbanism as presently understood, disciplinary science that studies the city, its transformation and its urban design .
Specific Aims/Objectives
Guide the student to understand the processes of action in cities, understanding the functioning of the city, the scale and form. It is also intended that the student knows the resources to intervene in the metropolis through the urban elements, the attitude of the organization, research and continuous updating in interpretation of these elements.
Skills to be acquired
The student should understand urbanism in historical, social, architectural and formal. It should also distinguish the mesh designs, relevant technical training and theoretical affiliation. Should acquire skills to enable it to know integrate the existing urban context and multidisciplinary.
Teaching Procedures
The theoretical-practical classes follow a communication strategy that provokes the learning, the discussion, the criticism and the elaboration of schematic syntheses, starting from the presentation of examples (texts, image, cartography and diagrammatic schemes).

Evaluation Type
The evaluation will be as settled in the Regulamento Geral de Avaliação of the University. It will be used the ongoing, periodical and individual evaluation (assiduity, punctuality, participation and two written tests).
Teaching Resources
For the presentation / discussion of the programmatic contents, it will be used: available informatics means, namely the use of PowerPoint program me, multiple bibliography, cartography, photography and texts for reflection. Throughout the classes, all bibliographic sources will be indicated.
