Main Aims/Objectives
Provide the theoretical and methodological instruments to enhance the reflective, critical and independent understanding of the social world;
Encourage the use of concepts and methodologies of the sociological work in the scientific areas and the future professional contexts of the students.
Specific Aims/Objectives
To make known fundamental concepts and theories to analyze the sociological dimension of the social reality and the importance of them for the subject areas and the profissinal contexts of the students;
To contribute to the understanding of the social research, the methods and techniques of analysis and their application;
To promote the recognition of the importance of the scientific approach of the social reality and to familiarize the students with the scientific work.
Skills to be acquired
To acquire scientific and multidisciplinary way of thinking;
To develop intellectual autonomy and capabilities of questioning, and of analytical and critical thinking;
To improve individual skills and team work, and oral and written communications;
To meet theoretical frameworks and methodologies of sociological research; to enhance the capability of selection, collection and interpretation of relevant social phenomena; to apply sociological concepts to their disciplinary areas.
Teaching Procedures
Theoretical-practical classes: presentation of the contents and use of active learning methods (debate from issues or themes of the program).
Tutorials Classes: analysis and discussion of texts; orientation of work with incentives to research.

5.1. Definition and characteristics;
5.2. Theories about the classes and social stratification;

6.1. Paid and unpaid work;

Evaluation Type
Continuous evaluation: oral evaluation from the discussion of program contents and themes, presentation and discussion of works developed by students under the guidance of the teacher based on reading articles and on the development of projects or research topics;
Written test about syllabus learned in class.
