Main Aims/Objectives

Acquisition of structural knowledge in this area; - Identify Security and Defence Policy as method and analytical and interpretative instrument of the Political Science and International Relations, through the International Security Studies; - Reflection on the most important issues of contemporary security and defense, at national, regional and global level.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Of conceptual and operational framework, from the Defense to the Security; Of the international framework in terms of units and the main political groupings, and of the IO; Of the conflictual factors and of the sensitive borders, while ´Tension and Conflictive Zones´ (TCZ), which may put in danger the Common and Global Security; Of Security and Defense in Portugal (the Military Components and Non Military of the Defense); Of the culture of National Defense.

Skills to be acquired

To develop the ability of searching and selection of relevant information on issues of Security and Defense; - Of critical analysis about political phenomena owen of the disciplines that contribute to their reading and interpretation; - Of consolidation of structural concepts and others, relating to the discussion of key issues about the global geopolitical reality and of the national Security and Defense.

Teaching Procedures

Expository Method: presentation and discussion of the program´s themes. Active method: critical analysis of texts; internet searches, oral and written presentation of thematic works, appealling to audio-visual media. In the tutorials sessions will be done, always it is possible, the monitoring of each student, guiding their study and research for the development of the respective IT.

Evaluation Type

The evaluation system is carried out according to the rules defined in the General Regulation of Knowledge Assessment of the Lusíada Universities. It will therefore be taken into account, in addition to the final evaluation, the importance of the ´contínuous avaliation´ considering, the interest and the attendance, the degree of participation in class, conducting works, mini-tests, among other elements.
