Main Aims/Objectives

1. Understanding the specificity of psychology: psychology as a science that studies the mental processes and human behaviour. Display the field of psychology in its diversity. Explore the basic concepts of psychology.
2. Understanding the specificity of human being: To develop a growing understanding of human behavior, considered at different levels and dimensions. Develop a knowledge based on central themes of psychology.

Specific Aims/Objectives


1. Reflecting on the nature of psychological science, its subject, purpose and relationship to other sciences; identify the diversity of areas of psychology; Develop an integrated overview of psychology.
2.Understand and critically analyze the contributions of psychology in the areas of intelligence, thought and emotion.



Skills to be acquired


Communicate the basic concepts and principles of psychology;
- Use precise language, the psychological discourse itself;
- Determine the complex nature of behavior;
- Know a broad overview of the most important and representative of Psychology;
Search capability and integration of information (comprehension, analysis and synthesis);
- Ability to communicate orally (conceptual rigor) and written
- Ability to self-criticism.


Teaching Procedures

Oral presentation with a view to deepening theoretical and open discussion for students. Practical work in small groups. Group discussion. Research literature.

Theories of information processing: the intelligence and the metabolism of glucose of Haier, intelligence and inspection time of Jensen; intelligence and lexical access of Hunt; intelligence and problem solving of Simon, intelligences and Sternberg analogies, Piaget´s theory, Vygotsky’s theory.
