Main Aims/Objectives

To develop the appropriate expertise for the representation of objects through the technical design.
Introduce the student to different aspects of the use of CAD software components in their design and graphical representation.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Provide students with the knowledge of methodologies, rules and standards in technical drawing.
Detailed study of the use of professional CAD software - AutoCad.

Skills to be acquired

Ability to execute design projects in digital format including:
i) representation of technical drawings in accordance with the standards and rules;
ii) the development of dimensional drawings using professional 2D CAD software.

Teaching Procedures

2 hours theoretical and practical classes with display / demonstration of the principles and methodologies of software operations.
During the semester students will run two tests of practical application that will allow the teacher to continuous evaluation.

Programme

Technical drawing
- Orthogonal representation: 1st method.
- Selection of views. Main view and necessary views.
- Auxiliary views.
- Section views.

2D CAD – AutoCad
- Coordinate systems.
- Design of entities: line, arc, circle, ellipse, polyline, etc..
- Editing entities: Move, Copy, Flip, Cut, Climb. Duplicate objects by "Array".
- Use of "layers", definition of stroke types and thicknesses.
- Building Blocks. Creating and editing entity "text".
- Methods for dimensioning and its parameters.

Evaluation Type

Two practical tests of continuous assessment (weight 40%) and final test (weight 60%).

Teaching Resources

CAD Software - AutoCAD - for personal computers.
Learning system "hands on" in the preparation of the work offered to students throughout the year.
