Main Aims/Objectives

– To understand History of Contemporary Art maim artistic movements
– To understand the place of History of Art in the development of the human thought.
– To understand History of Art in a broad context of social, cultural, political, technical and scientific development.
– To understand the importance History of Art has to Design.

Specific Aims/Objectives

– To know how to identify stylistically and philosophically the main artistic movements that appeared in the 19th and the 20th centuries, and some of their most important authors.
– To know how to identify and to understand the major aesthetic moments that characterized the 19th and the 20th centuries.
– To know how to contextualize the artistic movements in the History of the 19th and the 20th centuries.

Skills to be acquired

The students, by the end of the semester, should be able to:
– Understand what characterizes a work of art.
– Analyze an artistic object aesthetically and historically.
– Understand the evolution of Art through time from a socio-cultural perspective.
– Express themselves correctly about the concepts of the History of Art.

Teaching Procedures

Expositional method with use of examples of works of art, followed by critical analyze and reflection.

6. Art between the two Great Wars.

Evaluation Type

The studetns will be evaluated by the behaviour in classes:
