Main Aims/Objectives
Disciplines as prototyping workshop should enable the student of Industrial Design contact with projects from conception to finished product under technical supervision and creative help consolidating building experience of prototypes and final products.
Specific Aims/Objectives
Give students knowledge to adapt the general concept geometries of industrial products to mass production technologies, taking into account the specificity of production technologies. By using the design rules and materializing objects with Aditive Manufacturing Technologies students automatically identify design errors and make the appropriate corrections to prevent costly losses in the manufacturing of the final product
Skills to be acquired
Knoledge from the most ancient to the most emerging prototype production techniques, namely Rapid Prototyping, Rapid Tooling and rapid Manufacturing or recent Aditive manufacturing.
Endogeneisation and practice of experimental design rules learned in other disciplines of materials and production technologies.
Materialization of prototypes with morphological characteristics similar to those of mass production products.
Teaching Procedures
Theoretical exposition lessons and worshop experiments at INEGI for prototype production applying the referred techniques.
Study visits at CDRSP Center for Rapid and sustained product Development in Marinha Grande and CENCAL Glass Technological Center
Programme
The areas that will be subject of study will be:
- Traditional prototyping technologies
- Rapid prototyping and rapid tooling
- Production of plastic and metal pre-series
- Practical work of rapid prototyping for objects developed in the discipline and in other disciplines.
- Exploration of the hardware and software tools with real parts to be developed by the student and prototypes materialization and finishing. The rapid prototyping equipments at INEGI play an important role
.
