Main Aims/Objectives

Understanding the conceptual framework and scope of ethics.
-knowing the theories about contemporary ethics.
-Knowing the principals of the regulatory entities concerning to the design area and respective legislation.
-Understanding the deontological dimension of the design.
-Reflecting on the relationship between ethics and the market; the clients; consumers, State.
-Understanding the sense of social responsibility in the design.
-Knowing about the social codes of the design.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Assimilating the importance of ethics takes on organizational dynamics. Understand and appreciate the binomial ethics and harmonization as ends in the institutions / organizations. Curriculum of applied ethics in various areas of study.

Skills to be acquired

Assimilate the concept of ethics. Promoting research
Raising awareness and building an ethical culture in organizational contexts.
An ethical attitude towards life;
The ability to promote an ethical culture within organizations;
The ability to promote attitudes that may value the importance of:
1- The presence of an ethic dimension in the pratics;
2- Flexibility and adaptability to the constant mutations of postmodernity;
3- Critical and constructive thought within organizations.

Teaching Procedures

Expository methods in order to explain contents concearning the discipline;
Active methods as a strategy to promote research and critical thought.
Analysis and debate over texts, case studies or problems.

Programme

1-Conceptual framework: Origin, Foundation, relevance and actuality of the ethics in general and the scope of the design, in particular.
1.1-Ethics, deontology and social responsibility.
2-Descriptive, conceptual and prescriptive approaches of ethics.
3-The role of professional codes, their advantages and limitations.
4-The ethical dimension of the design and the commitment among the staholders.
5-The social, economic and cultural importance of the design in several contexts.
6-The role of the regulatory entities of the designers
7-National and international legislation on design
8-Design and citizenship

Evaluation Type

Lecture method as a strategy to clarify the contents. Active methods as a strategy for motivating research and critical reflection, analysis and discussion of texts / case studies / selection / theme issue for debate
Written tests.
