Main Aims/Objectives

Enable students to gain an integrated view of basic and advanced concepts of frequently applied statistical techniques. The concepts and techniques are introduced through examples, intended in this way that students learn through concrete problems.

Specific Aims/Objectives

The student should be able to perform statistical studies and work with several distributions of discrete and continuous variables.

Skills to be acquired

It is expected that students become critical users of methods of statistical analysis, with autonomy to apply them in the preparation of decisions.

Teaching Procedures

Theoretical classes and tutorial classes will be given. Theoretical material will be exposed and exercises related to the subject will be solved.

Evaluation Type

The continuous assessment consists of two written examinations each with the duration of about one hour and half. The first one covers the first half of the course contents and takes place approximately half way through the semester and the second one covers the second half of the course contents and takes place towards the end of the semester.

Teaching Resources

The theoretical-practical classes will be given using computer resources, namely with Microsoft PowerPoint graphical projections.
Moodle notes and exercises will be available for students, however students are invited to read the recommended bibliography and to carry out the exercises proposed there.
In the assessment the students can use the scientific and non-graphical calculating machine and use only the tables of the studied distributions available in Moodle.
