Main Aims/Objectives

Deepen knowledge of the main theories that explain and discuss the deviant behavior.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Will be deepen the understanding of the theories applied in different types of violence and crime, delinquency and antisocial behaviors.

Skills to be acquired

Develop skills of theoretical application of the existing models to specific contexts and behaviors, allowing the explanation and social contextualization of deviant phenomena.
Develop critical competencies in the interpretation and discussion of the reality of deviant behavior.

Teaching Procedures

Classes will include lecture and discussion, where students’ participation in their learning processe will be strongly encouraged.

Programme

1. Introduction:

- Brief review of the concept of deviant behavior. General approach of the contributions of Biological theories, Psychological and Sociological theories, for understanding the criminal phenomenon.

2. Deepened issues about the theoretical paradigms of psychology in understanding deviation:
- Psychodynamic perspective, behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychobiological and evolutionary;
- Psychopathological and developmental approach to delinquency;

3. Great themes of deviant behavior:
- State Crimes,massacres, genocide, summary executions.
- Immigration, refugees and crimes.
- Prostitution, and deviant sexualities.

Evaluation Type

2 tests; 1 work group.
