Main Aims/Objectives
To know the contribution of social sciences in the understanding of deviance.
To know the main sociological perspectives, framing them in the social conditions of their emergence.
Specific Aims/Objectives
To study the socio-criminological contributes of deviance and social reaction.
To reflect upon the implications of the different sociological theories in the explanation of deviant/delinquent behavior.
Skills to be acquired
To demonstrate knowledge of the main theories applied to the understanding of deviant behavior.
To be able to explain deviant behavior related to specific contexts and behaviors according to the theories studied.
To be able to apply and explain the different theories of the current criminal reality.

- Psychosocial and sociological approaches of deviance and delinquency
1. Chicago School: Park´s ecological theory; Burgess´s concentric zones theory; Shaw and McKay´s juvenile delinquency theories
2. R. Merton´s Anomie Theory
3. Cohen´s subculturel theory
4. Cloward and Ohlin´s opportunity theory
4.1. Gangs study
5. Deviance and social processes
5.1. Social Learning theories
5.2. Sutherland´s Differential Association Theory
6. Interactionism and societal reaction theories (Becker and Goffman).
