Main Aims/Objectives
The Forensic Sciences search for respond to the growing interest shown by various sectors about the power of the scientific knowledge, modeled, at first time, by the positivism and by the method of the natural sciences, and later, by the creation of explanatory systems of phenomena apprehended through the establishment laws, whose analysis, it normally has the backdrop of the contemporary discourse of the Criminology and of the Criminal Investigation.
Specific Aims/Objectives
In view of the future role of the student, this course aims to impart advanced knowledge in terms of allowing the obtaining of professional, educational and scientific, appropriate to the different areas of forensic science strategies.
Skills to be acquired
From the presentation of matters relating to Criminology, the law, the Scientific Police and for all, the criminal investigation will be transmitted knowledge can enable the analysis of the criminal process and their stakeholders as well as the formulation of procedures and the development of reports in terms of the technical study of the crime, in order to understand what happens, what you do, how to do, who can do what and when, and essentially the methodology.

According to the most appropriate teaching methods to the matters in question: expository, demonstrative, interrogative and active.
Programme
Since the forensic sciences began to take into account the socio-historical conditions of production of evidence and the functioning of legal mechanisms, the questioning of these structures has required that the following matters were considered:
- "Fundamental questions / analytical instruments" (time / when; place / where; so / as, author / who, nature / what; mobile / why);
- "General procedures of the Spirit" (analysis, correlation, synthesis, induction, deduction, analogy and intuition);
- In addition to other "fundamental elements of knowledge ´.
Given the forensic context of each of the main scientific disciplines in the context of its various technical demonstrations can take the comprehensive understanding of the criminal phenomenon, from the respective methodologies. Thus, in terms of skills, we aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the criminal phenomenon from a methodology that involves the scientific dimension, promoting the methodologies of Forensic Sciences in the framework of the different manifestations of deviance and crime, so in the end students can be prepared for, immediately, answer the following questions:
- What is the importance of using the method in the context of Forensic Sciences, particularly in criminal investigation, particularly at the crime scene?
- Crime is a human problem or is ´only´ a matter of power to be analyzed by the Forensic and Criminal Science?
- How to prevent the dogmatic judgments and passions that inhibit scientific attitudes of forensic technicians and criminal investigators?
- What are the implications of forensic and criminal perspectives in scientific research and social intervention?
At the end the student should be prepared for, the immediate answer, among others, issues related to the importance of using the ´method´ in scientific research, construction and distinction.
Evaluation Type
1. Continuous assessment applied on the basis of "knowing how to be ´and´ know-how ´of the student in class, careful monitoring of your progress (integration of ideas, concepts and content, relevance of the conclusions and personal investment and creativity).
2. Periodic evaluation written in two stages (60%, for superior decision).
3. Evaluation / frequency final written (40%, for superior decision).
