Main Aims/Objectives

Understand (in)security as a complex and multidimensional phenomenon.
Perceiving and framing interventions in the face of the phenomenon of insecurity in Western societies (paradigm of security governance)
Know the different concepts and models of criminal prevention.
Analyze the new security issues of transnational nature.

Specific Aims/Objectives

To know the different conceptualizations of (in) security, both in the subjective and objective aspects, as well as the way in which it has been operationalized.
Understanding contemporary trends in security governance and criminal prevention in Western societies.
To deepen the concepts and models of existing criminal prevention.
Critically analyze the problems of cybercrime and terrorism.

Skills to be acquired

Students should be able to understand the complexity and multidimensionality of the concept of fear of crime, its explaning factors, as well as its operationalization.
They are expected to understand the main current crime prevention models.
They should also be able to characterize national and transnational security problems such as cybercrime and terrorism.
