Main Aims/Objectives

The goal of the CU of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapies (CBT) is to promote knowledge and skills at the level of 1st/2nd waves.
Understand the need to implement strategies which are derived from robust conceptual and theoretical models and empirical validation techniques of psychological functioning;
Know the main assumptions underlying the CBT 1/2nd generation;
Knowing the empirical validation of CBT techniques.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Be able to implement the various techniques of 1/2 waves of CBT;
Critically understand the potentialities and limitations of different 1st / 2nd waves CBT techniques;
Understand the relevance and applicability of CBT 1/2nd waves generation processes and the various
dimensions of clinical practice and evaluation, conceptualization and intervention (relation between this and
other protected areas).

Skills to be acquired

knowledge and skills at the level of 1st/2nd waves related to be able to implement the various techniques of 1/2 waves of CBT;
Critically understand the relevance and applicability as well the potentialities and limitations of different 1st / 2nd waves CBT techniques.

Teaching Procedures

The teaching methodologies combine expository, participatory, demonstration, observation, modeling, role-play
and practice the different techniques. Expository methodology will be used in the presentation of the summary
of the assumptions underlying the approaches, models and techniques, exploring concepts and synthesis of
empirical validation of approaches and techniques. The demonstration, role-play and modeling, group
collaborative work (in large and small group), reflective practice and feedback

Programme

Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapies (CBT): Background; Evidence base; ABC components; CBT
thinking processes: Dysfunctional assumptions, core Beliefs, Negative Automatic Thoughts, Cognitive
Distortions, schemes;
1st and 2nd waves CBT techniques:
Behavioral techniques: gradual mediated and exposure, direct exposure, operant strategies, modeling and
behavioral practice;
Cognitive techniques: self-control techniques, Problem-Solving techniques; Stress inoculation techniques,
Rational debate techniques, Cognitive Restructuring techniques, Self-Instruction techniques.

Evaluation Type

The advantage to this course requires the presence of at least 70% of classes.
Each student will be invited to record an interaction with a hypothetical client (a colleague) that will demonstrate
exercise techniques. The teaching visionará recordings and categorizes student domain in practice the different
techniques. This will be the element of continuous assessment (60% of the grade). At the end of the semester,
students will take a written final exam (40% of the final classification).
