Main Aims/Objectives

Students should know the theories that serve as reference to the practices, know the evolutionary and normative milestones that guide Special Education in Portugal, design and develop evaluation-intervention plans for children and young people with s.e.n.(n.e.e.).According to the literature and legislation, to know the quality dimensions of the contexts, to understand the relevance of the collaborative work and to act ethically in a responsible way, with children and young people, families and professionals.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Students should understand the guiding principles of Special Education, know how to evaluate disabilities according to the CIF qualifiers, be able to intervene in the construction and implementation of educational intervention plans, know how to adequately apply support measures and pedagogical differentiation and to critically analyze educational interventions for children and young people with SEN.

Skills to be acquired

Collaborative work skills with several technicians (health, social service, special education, etc.); General and specific skills of assessment and psychological intervention, particularly with children and young people with special educational needs; Legislative appropriation skills and adequacy of educational responses; Skills to identify and promote developmental quality criteria in the life contexts of children and young people.

- Participated exhibition of contents,
- Analysis and discussion of practical cases,
- Critical analysis of educational interventions among children and young people with SEN,
- Fieldwork with a visit to the Structured Teaching Unit,
- Analysis and discussion of scientific articles.

Evaluation Type

Continuous assessment includes: (i) a written test; (Ii) a portfolio delivered in writing with a theoretical-practical component (article analysis and critical reflection of the fieldwork) (iii) and participation in class, considering the relevance of its contribution to the teaching-learning situation. Assessment according to the Regulation in force in the 2nd Cycles of the University Lusíada.
