Main Aims/Objectives

- Having assimilated the objectives and contents developed in the History of Modern Art, it is important to understand and evaluate the propagation and acceptance of the new Italian artistic culture called Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque in Europe, and, by extension, in the new colonized world. Also understand the emergence of new cultural and artistic movements: the Enlightenment, the Rococo and the Neoclassical.

Specific Aims/Objectives

- To understand the difficult progression in the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries of the new Italian artistic culture, in the face of Gothic tradition in Europe. The triumph of the classic in the sixteenth to eighteenth centuries in Europe. The realisation of the ideal city in Asia and America and the impact of non-Western civilisations with the European colonizer.

Skills to be acquired

- To relate artists and works produced in Europe, within the new classic costume invented and propagated by the Italians.
- Be able to discern and apply the already explored concepts of Modern, Classical, Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque. And also the ideal City and Utopia. Western and non-Western.

Teaching Procedures

Classes will be colloquial, using bibliography and examples chosen for analysis. Open to debate and presentation and defense of work (individual and group), when properly guided. Whenever possible, they will be complemented with study visits, conferences and other relevant activities outside the classroom.
