Main Aims/Objectives

The Constructive Systems course has the general objectives of deepening the knowledge acquired in previous years, namely, the study of detailing in order to encourage the mastery of the scales of detail, with relevance for the preparation of the project to communicate the Work.
Relate the Constructive Systems discipline with the practice of Integrated Project, crossing information from other Curricular Units, in the perspective of interdisciplinarity.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Encourage and stimulate research at the level of detail of execution, thus enhancing the communication tools to the Work, thus integrating the knowledge acquired in the practice of the Project.
In this course, special relevance is given to current systems (with which students will have more contact in professional practice), without neglecting the investigation of systems considered to be more experimental.

Skills to be acquired

Criteriously define the materials, their application and all the material for coating and/or closing the surfaces that define the interior and exterior spaces.
Mastery of design, namely in detail and detail in the most diverse graphic scales, required in a project to communicate the Work.
Ability to integrate particular details of a building [windows], with various construction techniques resulting from the systems adopted in the project.

Teaching Procedures

The works are developed through the articulation of theoretical/practical moments. In theoretical/practical classes, the exercises to be carried out will be presented, the themes and information necessary for the progress of the work will be introduced, as well as periodic presentations and results debates will be made. In classes will be implemented and executed the proposed exercises, presented, analyzed, criticized and discussed, in groups or individually, the development of the work.

Programme

Based on the project developed in the Project Course I [which can be carried out from another project subject that the student is attending], the study of the constructive detail and its detailing in the integrated graphic scales must be carried out.
The syllabus of the Curricular Unit of Constructive Systems is divided into two phases:

1. Planned cuts.
From one of the interior elevations, it must represent the planned sections, thus defining all the material for covering and/or closing the surfaces that define the interior spaces.
1.1. Representation in 1:5 scale, of the different layers that incorporate the walls, ceilings, sub-ceilings and floors, of the spaces identified in the planned sections.
1.1.1. In scales, 1:2 and/or 1:1, representation of two constructive details, of the relationship between the wall with ceilings or sub-ceilings and the floor.
1.1.2. Identification of rough and finishing dimensions.
1.1.3. The drawings of details and planned cuts must be dimensioned in cm, and their main dimensions identified.
1.1.4. The subtitling model to be adopted in the drawing must clearly identify the constructive function, material used and general dimensioning?, of the different materials to be applied.

2. Details.
Having, once again, as a reference the drawings produced in the first phase of the biannual work, you must choose an exterior and an interior space for detailing.
2.1. Representation of two spans in 1:50 scale, [two elevations and two sections per span] with partial cuts to scale, 1:2, of the interior and exterior frames, with particular importance for carpentry detail.
2.1.1. The detailed drawings must be dimensioned in cm [relative dimensions], and the main dimensions identified.
2.1.2. Details must be properly labeled, with information regarding the constitution of the window and door, details, method of fixing to the wall and finishes.
2.2. Representation of a frame for each span identifying: 1-Designation and location;
2-Functioning; 3-Hardware; 4 - Glass; 5-Finishing material; 6-Sill; 7-Dimension of the span [rough]; 8-Dimension of the sheet.
2.3. 3D detail of the outer frame.
2.3.1. The 3D detail must demonstrate particular aspects, of the set of materials and systems used for the exterior wall, threshold, frames, way of fixing to the wall, etc...
2.3.2. Subtitling model to be adopted in 3D detail, should it clearly identify the constructive function, material used and general dimensioning of the various materials applied.

Evaluation Type

Due to the nature of the discipline, the assessment will be continuous and permanent. In this sense, attendance will be taken into account, participation in classes, regularity and continuity of work, the response to the problems and challenges launched. The continuous assessment will also include two written tests and assignments, according to the school calendar. The fundamental moments of established assessment will also be fulfilled: the Attendance Test and the Final Exam.

Teaching Resources

To achieve the required objectives and skills, the following teaching resources will be used:
- Computers;
- Specialized bibliography available in the media library and library of Universidade Lusíada;
- Indication of fundamental texts for the learning and elaboration of research work;
- Multimedia material (documentaries, images, etc.);
- Laboratory classes that encourage research on building systems and materials.
