Main Aims/Objectives
The objective of the course is to make the student aware of the materiality of space, with particular emphasis on the importance of color as a defining element of the identity of a space.
The use of a certain texture, light and color results in a comfortable environment or in an environment of tension and discomfort. The participation of these elements in the built environment influences its functionality and essentially the quality of experience of its users.
Specific Aims/Objectives
Spatial reading is defined by sensory perception with special focus on the visual sense. About 80% of the information we receive is perceived by the sense of sight. Light, texture and color are fundamental elements in understanding and experiencing not only the natural space but, above all, the built space. In spatial perception, color allows the acquisition of objective information from the real world and is also capable of influencing physical and psychological well-being.
Skills to be acquired
Consolidation of knowledge about the bionivocal relationship between Man and space.
Students´ awareness of the physical/psychological impact of the layout of a given space and consequent reactions and/or inhibitions.
Understanding color as a factor resulting from various social, cultural, ethnic and geographic practices.
Ability to analyze and evaluate the surrounding space - color as an identity factor for interior and exterior spaces.
Teaching Procedures
Classes will address different examples, motivating the capacity for analysis and subsequent debate of the issues presented.
As a support to research, students will develop practical work allowing knowledge of the relationship between theory and practice.
Programme

- analysis and objectives of the application of color in different built environments.
Evaluation Type
The assessment will be based on attendance, participation and commitment in debates held in classes during privileged contact in the teaching space, in the execution and presentation of work to apply knowledge.
The work requested is the subject of its own statement, following the most appropriate methodology for the objective to be achieved.
Teaching Resources
The components of the learning environment to be used will be the aforementioned bibliographic elements; existing databases in the Media Library; computer equipment, and presentations in classes, videos and student work.
