Main Aims/Objectives

The prog. of Theory of Architecture, is held in different disciplinary approaches, but complementary, converging to the problem of architectural discipline and theirs distincts atmospheres strict sense. The overall goal of the course, are to consolidate the students in the universe of Theoretical Architecture, theirs methodologies and languages and subsequent forms of expression in a multi-and interdisciplinary perspective.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Capacity to work a concept / project idea and its graphic representation, discussion of the concept design as envisioned by the operational mechanism of research (comparing, benchmarking, validation). Capacity to build it structurally reflexions as part of an individual episteme methodology based in theory.

Skills to be acquired

Being able to imagine, write and perform the Architecture project. Being able to ´discuss´ theoretically and graphically and express, approaching more and more the prospect of reading theory of the Architecture universe (such as infrastructure and essential complement to the Architecture Project).

Teaching Procedures

Lectures and discussion, with production to individual written reflections and reviews of selected works.

Evaluation Type

Construction of an individual analysis frame focus on the Architecture Project, where all doctrinal contents aims to be confronted, discussed and criticized. Construction of two tests, as provided in the Rules of Evaluation of the University.

Sustainability Objectives

In view of the climate emergency, the loss of biodiversity and social inequalities and asymmetries, the proposed programme aims to contribute to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education), ensuring that all students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development; and to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), promoting attitudes towards the preservation, protection and conservation of all built and natural cultural heritage.
