Main Aims/Objectives
In this curricular unit, particular emphasis will be given to various technical infrastructures that are inserted in architecture, and in urbanism, and that cannot be ignored, since they contribute to the hygiene, safety and comfort of people. As such, several infrastructures will be addressed, in order to make students aware of their various compositions, mode of operation and their respective conditioning.
Specific Aims/Objectives
It is intended that students are able to understand the technical, conceptual and constructive requirements of the various technical infrastructures in order to obtain an improvement, in their integration, in the building projects, and of urbanizations, that they will develop in the future.
Skills to be acquired
Obtain knowledge to be able to define the compositions of various infrastructures of urbanizations and of building systems, namely those related to public and building networks for water distribution, wastewater drainage, and rainwater, those related to fuel gas installations, appliances production of AQS, and others.
Teaching Procedures
This curricular unit has a weekly schooling of four hours, with two hours of formal theoretical exposition, and the other two dedicated to solving exercises and carrying out practical work, which will be integrated in continuous assessment, which will consist of the individual application knowledge acquired, in a project carried out by the student in another course subject.
Programme
PUBLIC AND BUILDING WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS:
- Design of public water distribution systems (simplified systems; new systems; remodeling or rehabilitation of existing systems; registration of the existing system, exploitation data; population evolution, capitation, consumption)
- Distribution network of public water distribution systems (minimum service pressure; implementation of the network ducts and minimum depth; connecting branches; irrigation and washing nozzles; hydrants; reservoirs)
- Separation of building water distribution systems (identification of pipes; prevention of contamination; use of non-potable water)
- Design of building water distribution systems (new systems; remodeling or expansion of existing systems)
- Distribution network of building water distribution systems (devices for use; layout of building water pipes; installation of indoor pipes; installation of outdoor pipes; prevention of corrosion; isolation of the hot water network; nature of the network materials of water)
- Accessory elements of the water distribution network (taps, flow meters, valves; meters, DHW systems)
- Complementary installations of the water distribution network (building reservoirs; elevating installations; overpressure installations)
PUBLIC AND BUILDING SYSTEMS FOR WASTE WATER DRAINAGE AND
RAINWATER:
- General rules for public drainage systems for wastewater and rainwater (scope of systems; constitution of systems; types of systems, prohibited releases; general design)
- Collector network for public wastewater and rainwater drainage systems (purpose of the collectors; installation of the collectors and minimum depth, connection branches; insertion of the connection branches in the public drainage network and their layout; network ventilation)
- Accessory elements of the public drainage network for wastewater and rainwater (manholes; sweeping current chambers; gutters and sinks; unloaders)
- Complementary installations (lifting installations)
- General rules for building drainage systems for domestic and rainwater wastewater (separation of systems, permitted releases, prohibited releases; identification of pipes)
- Design of building drainage systems for domestic and rainwater (ventilation)
- Plumbing of building drainage systems for domestic and rainwater wastewater (discharge branches - route, connection and location; ventilation branches - route and location; downspouts and gutters; fall pipes - route, location, cleaning and discharge nozzles; ventilation columns - purpose, layout and location; building collectors - layout, connecting branch chamber and check valves)
- Accessory elements of building drainage systems for domestic and rainwater wastewater (siphons; drains and inspection chambers)
- Complementary installations for building drainage systems for domestic and rainwater (elevating installations; retaining chambers - implantation)
DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS AND GAS INSTALLATIONS IN BUILDINGS
- Building extensions (shut-off valves, gearbox and counter boxes, for single-family buildings and for collective buildings)
- Installations in buildings (installation of the pipeline; general cut-off device; upright column, floor by-pass, installation of gas inside the fires, flue gas exhaust ducts, characteristics of compartments with gas appliances)
Evaluation Type
Students perform evolutionary work on the material taught in class. Continuous assessment includes attendance to classes, students´ performance in carrying out the proposed exercises, delivery and evaluation of the work developed throughout the semester, all complemented with two written tests of a theoretical / practical nature.
Teaching Resources
The theoretical introduction of the material is carried out with the visualization of elements that are available to students on the moodle platform. After the theoretical introduction, exercises related to the subject are followed, with the same exercises being available to students on the moodle platform.
