Main Aims/Objectives

In continuation of the Urbanism curricular unit, the aim is to deepen research into the different poles of the territorial system, contemplating their formation, fixation and evolution, taking into account that coastal places are more exposed to climate change, namely the rise in sea level. ;

Specific Aims/Objectives

Knowledge of the history of Urbanism and enunciation of analysis methodologies for Municipal Spatial Planning Plans (PMOT?s): Municipal Master Plans, Urbanization Plans, Detailed Plans. Reflection on the architecture of public space and on city and territory issues, discussing approach methods, planning instruments and strategic intervention reasoning.

Skills to be acquired

Establish a diachronic reading of the evolution of urban fabrics, to understand, in a synchronic reading, the singularities of their architecture generated in different periods of History, identifying the main conceptual, structural and symbolic invariants to strengthen the development of relational thinking and identify bridges between different times and modes of evolution of the urban/rural form.

Teaching Procedures

Classes will address the theory related to territorial formation, motivating the ability to analyze and consequently debate the issues presented. Students will develop theoretical-practical work allowing them to understand the relationship between theory and practice.

Programme

The student will develop a strategic project for the intervention area with the main objective of addressing the impact of climate change, with great attractive capacity in the public, collective, cultural and heritage universe; a landscape, urban and architectural project capable of providing motivation and future attraction on a regional and local scale; and finally, the definition and characterization of current uses and forms, capable of establishing balanced and qualified relationships with the surroundings and, also, capable of attracting and retaining populations, respectively, visitors and residents;

Evaluation Type

The assessment will be based on attendance, participation and commitment in debates held in classes during privileged contact in the teaching space, in the execution and presentation of work to apply knowledge.
Theoretical/practical work is in accordance with the stated Program.

Teaching Resources

The components of the learning environment to be used will be the aforementioned bibliographic elements.
Existing databases on the internet and computer equipment are essential for accessing online content;

Sustainability Objectives

It is intended that the student is aware of the principles of sustainability and integrated urban regeneration of conflict territories, “making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”, in line with Goal 11 for the Sustainable Development of United Nations.
