Main Aims/Objectives

The goal is to provide students with the first conceptual and theoretical foundations of macroeconomics in order to understand the aggregate movements of a market economy.

Specific Aims/Objectives

The course is focused on four topics: (i) basic concepts and measures of macroeconomic phenomena, (ii) economic growth, (iii) the study of the aggregate labour market, and (iii) microeconomic foundations of macroeconomics.

Skills to be acquired

It is intended that students acquire the necessary foundations to study in subsequent macroeconomic courses the aggregate behavior of closed and open economies, in the short and long term. It is also an objective to expose the course material with significant analytical rigor, in order to start familiarizing students with the techniques and methodologies of modern macroeconomics study.

Teaching Procedures

The key aspects of the course program will be taught in class, with students being given the indication of the appropriate readings in the Bibliography Course as a way of complement the content transmitted in the classroom.
