Main Aims/Objectives
Promote the knowledge of the theoretical and epistemological foundations of Work Psychology and Organizational Psychology. Understand the overall context of organizations and consider the intervention process on working conditions. Recognize the psychologist´s role within multidisciplinary teams.
Specific Aims/Objectives
1. Describe the historical evolution of Work Psychology, recognizing the most important moments.
2. Consider the interfaces of Work and Organizational Psychology (WOP) with other fields that are related, and to describe their epistemological origins.
3. To characterize some organizational diagnostic tools used by the WOP.
4. Consider the relationship between work, health and age.
Skills to be acquired
It is expected that students are able to a) define the role of the Work and Organizational Psychologist, both from the point of view of prevention and remediation standpoint; b) put into action process analysis of the actual work, with a view to intervene on working conditions; c) recognize the dimensions of organization that influence the health and well-being at work; d) develop an understanding of the age factor and its relationship with work.
Teaching Procedures
The combination of theoretical and practical classes, enhanced by the importance that assumes the acquisition of knowledge and know-how, will be considered by alternating between the use of expository and interrogative methods and the use of active methodologies.
Programme
Unit 1. Psychology of Work and Organizations. Historical evolution of the WOP. Epistemological foundations. Interfaces with other fields of knowledge. Psychology of Work and Organizations - concerns and interventions.
Unit 2. Work Psychology - the central role of analysis of activity.
Unit 3. Diagnostic Methodologies in Work Psychology. Instruction to double. Simple self-confrontation. Cross self-confrontation. Collective analysis of Labor.
Unit 4. Health and Work. Complexity of the relationship between health and work. Working conditions, health and welfare at work. Prevention: from concept to practice. Major risk factors. Psychosocial risks.
Unit 5. Age and Labor. The aging process. Aging and working conditions.
Evaluation Type
Group work with mandatory oral presentation, in which all students are questioned. The work will also involve the delivery of a report.
Active participation in classes will also be subject to evaluation, namely considering the degree of involvement in the activities proposed in class, in the sense of evident responsibility, as well as the expression of critical thinking.
