Main Aims/Objectives
1. To teach technical drawing.
2. To teach how to use AutoCAD for design projects.
Specific Aims/Objectives
1. To teach how to use AutoCAD as a drawing and representation tool.
2. To teach how to represent orthogonal views (first dihedral projection method).
3. To teach how to represent cuts and sections.
4. To teach how to apply dimensioning.
Skills to be acquired
At the end of the semester the students should be able to:
1. Use AutoCAD drawing tools.
2. Understand orthographic projections.
3. Project orthographically with the first-angle method.
4. Project section views.
5. Apply dimensions.
6. Use with layers and different types of line.
7. Use AutoCAD in design projects.
Teaching Procedures
The teaching will be divided by a theoretical part where the expositive and the interrogation methods will be used, and by a practical part, where the demonstrative and active methods will be used.
Programme
1. Introduction to AutoCAD.
1.1 The AutoCAD coordinate system: absolute coordinates and relative coordinates.
1.2 Representation using angles. ‘Polar Coordinates’.
1.3 Drawing tools. E.g.: line; polyline; circles; arcs; rectangles; ellipses; splines; offset tool; trim tool; fillets; polar array. Drawing with object snaps.
1.4 Editing entities: Move, Copy, Symmetry, Cut, Scale.
1.4 Line types: line styles and weights. Layers.
1.5 Relationships between geometric features.
1.6 Applying text.
2. Technical drawing.
2.1 Orthogonal representation, first dihedral method.
2.2 Representation with auxiliary views.
2.3 Orthogonal representation of sections and cross-sections.
3. Dimensioning methods and their parameterisation.
4. Creation of legends and layouts. Drawing scales. ‘Model space’ and ‘paper space’.

Evaluation Type
The assessment will be carried out in accordance with the Lusíada University General Regulations on Assessment, comprising two written tests and an end-of-semester examination.
