Main Aims/Objectives

1. To know how to design using technical drawing.
2. To know how to work with CAD software in Design projects.

Specific Aims/Objectives

1. To know how to draw in AutoCAD.
2. To know how to project orthographically using the first-angle method.
3. To know how to section views.
4. To know how to apply dimensions to drawings.

Skills to be acquired

At the end of the semester the students should be able to:

1. Use AutoCAD drawing tools.
2. Understand orthographic projections.
3. Project orthographically with the first-angle method.
4. Project section views.
5. Apply dimensions.
6. Use with layers and different types of line.
7. Use AutoCAD in design projects.

Teaching Procedures

The teaching will be divided by a theoretical part where the expositive and the interrogation methods will be used, and by a practical part, where the demonstrative and active methods will be used.

Programme

1. Introduction to AutoCAD.
1.1 Coordinate system: absolute and relative.
1.2 Drawing using angles. Polar coordinates.
1.3 Drawing tools. Ex. line; polyline; circles; arcs; rectangles; ellipses; spline curves; offset tool; trim; fillet; polar array. Using object snaps.
1.4 Types of lines. Layers.
1.5 Geometric relations.
1.6 Using text.

2. Technical drawing.
2.1 Orthogonal projection according with the first-angle method.
2.2 Projecting auxiliary views.
2.3 Projecting section views.

3. Dimensioning.

4. Creating title blocks and template layouts. Drawing scales. Working in model-space and paper-space.

Evaluation Type

During the semester the students will be assessed by exercises, practical works and two tests, in accordance with the Assessment Regulation of Universidade Lusíada.

Computer, AutoCad, Internet, projector, white board, pen, books.
