Main Aims/Objectives
1. To teach how to model in 3D (introductory level).
2. To teach how to use 3D modeling in Design projects.
Specific Aims/Objectives
1. To teach how to 3D solid models in SolidWorks using 2D sketches.
2. To teach how to assembly parts in assembly files.
3. To teach how to produce technical drawings of parts created in SolidWorks.
Skills to be acquired
At the end of the semester, the students should know how to:
1. Model using 2D sketches.
2. Apply the main 3D modeling features.
3. Create solids from isometric and orthogonal projections.
4. Apply auxiliary geometry.
5. Model in a flexible maner.
6. Assembly parts in assembly files.
7. Produce technical drawings with SolidWorks.
8. Use SolidWorks in Design Projects.
Teaching Procedures
The classes will be subdivided in a theoretical part, where it will be used the expositive method, and in a practical part, where it will be used the demonstrative and the active methods.
Programme
1. Introduction to SolidWorks (or other similar software)
1.1 Drawing geometry in 2D sketches. Drawing tools.
1.2 2D constrain tools. Applying dimensioning.
1.3 3D Modeling. Mains features: extrude; revolve; loft; sweep.
1.4 Using auxiliary geometry.
1.5 Other modeling tools. Ex: rib; fillet.
2. Assembly parts in assembly files (introductory level).
3. Producing technical drawings in SolidWorks.
Evaluation Type
During the semester the students will be assessed by exercises, practical works and two tests, in accordance with the Assessment Regulation of Universidade Lusíada.
