Main Aims/Objectives

Analysis of the main research studies and methodologies applied to criminological investigation.

Specific Aims/Objectives

-To deepen the knowledge about the process of scientific research in Criminology;
- To know the main research designs used in Criminology;
- To know the main scientific studies carried out in the scope of Criminology, deepening the methodologies and instruments used, as well as the main results obtained;
- To know the ethical issues to consider in criminological investigation.

Skills to be acquired

- Evaluate the central concepts involved in the use of multiple research methodologies, namely, in the collection, analysis, interpretation and communication of data;
- Understand the relationship between criminal investigations and policy development at the level of the criminal justice system;
- Being able to identify ethical considerations in the conduct of criminological investigation;

II. Ethics in the research process

3. Confidentiality and other central issues in criminological investigation
III. Research designs
1. Experimental design and two variations
2. Cross-sectional and longitudinal designs
IV. Sampling and data collection:
1. Types of sampling
2. Data collection techniques: questionnaires and interviews
V. Data analysis
