Main Aims/Objectives

The objective of this CU is to promote the Learning and skills acquisition regarding the clinical assessment in adults.

Specific Aims/Objectives

To understand the goals, theoretical background and practical issues involved in psychological assessment.
To understand the process of psychological assessment.
To develop skills of administration and scoring of assessment tools.
To acknowledge ethical issues related with psychological assessment.

Skills to be acquired

- Understand clinical assessment as a complex process that incorporates the client objectives and context, its personal characteristics, and development.
- Develop ethical thinking on the clinical assessment setting.
- Develop skills regarding specific information collection regarding the main psychopathological problems.
- Develop skills regarding the clinical integration of the different assessment strategies, and assessment results communication.
- To be aware of the ethical dilemma involved;

Teaching Procedures

Lectures will have a theoretical and practical framework. Active discussion and reflection will be promoted regarding the different themes. Students skills will be acquired through role-play, learning by observation and training in administration/scoring of several clinical assessment tools for adults. Interviews, scripts and the main instruments of clinical assessment will be used as well. In Moodle platform it will be provided guidelines for practical activities and it will be promoted a forum for questions.

Evaluation Type

Continuous assessment will take into account students’ attendance and participation. It will also include completing an individual assignment, a group assignment, and the final examination.
