Main Aims/Objectives
To frame psychological intervention as a result of the integration of information gathered in the psychological assessment and the cases´ clinical conceptualisation;
To know the main techniques and methods of clinical intervention with children and adolescents;
To select approaches and strategies according to the child?s/adolescent?s symptoms, psychopathology or developmental characteristics.
Specific Aims/Objectives
To design an intervention plan based on the integration of the information gathered in the psychological assessment process or in the cases? clinical conceptualisation;
To select approaches and strategies based on the child´s/adolescent´s symptoms/ psychopathology and developmental characteristics;
To critically analyse the approaches and strategies used to deal with the specific needs identified in each case;
To monitor the effectiveness of the intervention.
Skills to be acquired
It is expected that the students acquire competencies allowing them to:
- define an appropriate intervention plan;
- select approaches and strategies according to the child?s/adolescent?s symptoms/ psychopathology and developmental characteristics;
- critical analyse the approaches and strategies used, considering the specific needs identified in each case;
- assess the intervention effectiveness.
Teaching Procedures
Participated exposition of the contents;
Analysis and discussion of clinical cases;
Role-playing to model the use of strategies and techniques explored in the classes.
Programme
1. Clinical intervention as a construction resulting from the integration of information gathered in the psychological assessment and the cases´ clinical formulation;
2. Evidence based strategies and techniques used in the intervention in:
2.1. Depressive Disorders,
2.2. Anxiety Disorders,
2.3. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder,
2.4. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder,
2.5. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder,
2.6. Oppositional Defiant Disorder and Behavior Disorder,
2.7. Elimination Disorders;
3. Specific skills associated with clinical intervention with children and adolescents:
3.1. Design of intervention plans based on child/adolescent symptoms/ psychopathology and developmental characteristics.
Evaluation Type
According to the RGACC, the assessment of the curricular unit is constituted of two modes: continuous and final.
Continuous assessment, compulsory for the approval in the curricular unit, requires:
- attendance of 70% of classes;
- a clinical report, based on a clinical case.
The final assessment consists of a final exam on the contents explored along the semester.
Weighting: Continuous assessment - 60% of the final grade; Final assessment - 40 %.
