Main Aims/Objectives
- Promote the acquisition of skills by students, regarding the different research methodologies in Design;
- Promote the understanding of theoretical-practical contents, through the reading and discussion of contents related to different research methods and techniques with a view to understanding their applicability;
- Provide students with arguments that allow them to strengthen their critical and analytical thinking.
Specific Aims/Objectives
- Promote the ability to develop a scientific text, as well as organize the planning of the dissertation;
- Equip students with tools and knowledge that will allow them to produce scientific knowledge in the area of Design;
- Prepare students to choose and apply the most relevant methodologies for their research.
Skills to be acquired
- Identify and distinguish the main research methodologies;
- Select a methodology and build a work plan;
- Autonomy in the elaboration of a scientific article and organization of the dissertation.
Teaching Procedures
The classes will be theoretical and practical, with different themes related to the syllabus presented, with a view to promoting discussion between students and teacher. There will also be room for the realization of work proposals, with a view to solidifying the contents taught.

Evaluation Type
Assessment to be carried out in accordance with the General Regulation of the 2nd Study Cycles Leading to the Master´s Degree at Universidade Lusíada.
The Continuous Assessment criteria of UC Methodology focus on: participation in class (online or in person), analysis and criticism of the exposed content, creativity, work autonomy, debate, reading, interpretation and comment of relevant texts and audiovisual resources.
Written work + oral discussion (TE): 60%
Final exam (EF): 40%
Teaching Resources
- Lectures supported by audiovisual resources;
- Presentation of content online;
- Supporting bibliography (texts, reference websites, monographs, etc.);
- Colloquia and study visits (dependent on the evolution of covid-19 and consequent confinement).
