Main Aims/Objectives
In this course of Innovation and Entrepreneurship students may achieve a deep knowledge on innovation as the basis for a sustainable model of development and to approach opportunities of creating and managing a business/organisation.
Specific Aims/Objectives
At the end of the course unit the learner is expected to be able to unsderstand what is innovation, how it may used for the building of a sustainable model of development. They also would be able to desgn a business plan managing processes of innovation within the company/organisation.
Skills to be acquired
Students are expected to develop the following skills:
- Knowledge of national and regional systems of innovation and about Portugal in the present context;
- Knowledge about entrepreneurship: how to build a business plan and critical factors for achieving success
- capacities of analysis and decision;.
- capacities to develop teamwork.
Teaching Procedures
Classes have a theoretical component in terms of the explanation of theories and concepts and a practical component in terms of the analysis and discussion of case studies.
Programme
I - Innovation: concept
Innovation as key for a more sustainable model of economic and social development.
Innovation in the European Union. Innovation in Portugal.
II - The national and regional systems of innovation.
A cross-country comparative analysis.
The case of Portugal.
III - Entrepreneurship
To create a company or an organisation. Critical factors for success.
IV - Integrating market, technological and organisational factors in the design of a strategy of innovation.
V - Implementing innovation: new Products, new services, new processes of production and of work organisation.
VI - Measures of innovation: the Oslo Manual, the European Innovation Scoreboard, and the company Innovation Scoreboard.
Evaluation Type
Assessment is based on two written tests and the participation in class, namely contributions for case studies discussion and analysis.
