SUSTAINABLE FINANCE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
3rd of May 2024
University Lusíada - Lisbon

At Rio+20, the Natural Capital Declaration was signed by the CEOs of more than 40 financial institutions and demonstrated their commitment to the integration of natural capital considerations into private sector reporting, accounting and decision-making.

The European Union is aware that climate change and environmental degradation are an existential threat to Europe and the world, and therefore to overcome these challenges has launched the European Green Deal, in 2019.

The European Parliament and the Council have created in recent years a classification system of environmentally sustainable economic activities with the aim of scaling up sustainable investments and combating greenwashing of financial products that unduly claim to be sustainable.

European regulation introduced among others a requirement for organisations to report information on, as a minimum, environmental, social and employee matters, respect for human rights, anti-corruption and bribery matters, but also business model; policies, including due diligence processes; the outcome of those policies; risks and risk management.

The sustainability information disclosed in the annual reports of organisations has to reach two primary groups of users. The first group of users consists of investors, including asset managers, who want to better understand the risks and opportunities that sustainability issues pose for their investments and the impacts of those investments on people and the environment. The second group of users consists of civil society actors, including non-governmental organisations and social partners, which wish to better hold companies/organisations accountable for their impacts on people and the environment. These users as well as others might also make use of sustainability information to establish comparisons across and within market sectors.

COMEGI is promoting  on the 3rd of May 2024  an International conference on Susitainable Finances at University Lusíada – Lisbon campus, and invites researchers to submit their papers and participate in person, or online in the debate to advance knowledge on this very importante part of the sustainable model of development.
