Main Aims/Objectives
The Curricular Unit of Fundamentals of Communication Design aims to improve and develop graphic expression, through experimentation with the technique, expressiveness according to the purposes. It also seeks to expose methods of representation, through which the various values that articulate the design process in relation to architectural forms, as an objectual or urban synthesis, are distinguished.
Specific Aims/Objectives
Provide the mechanisms and conceptual and graphic resources to, through design, carry out the systemic analysis of the various models, exploring graphic systems in parity, and their purposes.
Develop the ability to analyze and represent, to recognize and understand forms, to reflect on the aspects that determine their configuration, indicating which criteria to choose.
Skills to be acquired
Provide the student with methods of representation, with the aim of distinguishing the values that articulate the conceptual process, considering the elements that constitute its formal characterization.
Enable drawing in its expressive potential, either in the project or in the observation drawing. Lead the student to methodologies that stimulate imagination and creativity.
Teaching Procedures
The works are developed through the articulation of theoretical and practical moments. In theoretical classes, the exercises to be carried out will be presented, the themes and information necessary for the progress of the work will be introduced, as well as, periodically, presentations and results will be debated. In practical classes, proposed exercises will be implemented and executed, presented, analyzed, criticized and discussed, in groups or individually.
Programme
The program is based on two types of exercises: on the one hand, the student will do urban analysis exercises, anchored in the terrain of the Curricular Unit of Architecture II. The various exercises will serve as a basis for the exercise of different graphic techniques, in the treatment of expressive forms using the line/stain, color, light/dark relationships, textures, from sketches, rigorous drawing, rigorous perspective, and raised hand drawing. On the other hand, the student will come into contact with graphic analysis exercises of works by relevant architects of all times (who distinguished themselves by a particular way of thinking and representing), in order to interpret some attributes such as: volume, mass, texture, color , light/dark ratio, in
scope of geometry, organic forms, architecture and nature.
All these concepts will be explained, in accordance with the proposed exercises, so that, conclusively, the Curricular Unit offers the student an awareness of the importance of representation, as an intellectualizing instrument of different ways of thinking and projecting.
Evaluation Type
Due to the nature of the discipline, the assessment will be continuous and permanent. In this sense, attendance, participation in classes, continuity of work, response to problems and challenges will be taken into account. Continuous assessment will also consist of two designed tests and the delivery of assignments, in accordance with the school calendar. The established fundamental evaluation moments will also be complied with: the Frequency Test and the Final Exam.
