Main Aims/Objectives
Inclusive, or Universal, Design, aims to design spaces, products and services that can be used effectively, safely and comfortably by as many people as possible, regardless of their abilities.
The fundamental objective of Inclusive Design seems to be consensual, since it will be difficult to find a place or object of daily use that has not been thought, designed, produced or built by people and for people.
Specific Aims/Objectives
It is intended to make an approach around the issues that surround Inclusive Design and that contributes to bring about a change in attitude towards the concept of user with special needs, something that today´s society restricts to users with physical or mental disabilities, but that , in fact, applies to all of us when we find ourselves in specific situations of misunderstanding or inability to carry out everyday tasks and actions.
Skills to be acquired
- Knowledge of anthropometric/ergonomic concepts.
- Understanding and critical analysis of the importance of defining the characteristics of spaces and constructive details according to the function and with the different users.
- Recognition of reaction or intimidation in human behavior caused by the impact of spatial characteristics based on their physical characteristics.
- Knowledge and application of Decree Law nº163/2008.
Teaching Procedures
Classes will address different examples, motivating the ability to analyze and consequent debate, of the issues presented.
As a support to research, students will develop practical work allowing knowledge of the relationship between theory and practice.
