Main Aims/Objectives

The general goal of Introduction to International Relations course unit is to acquaint students with the general knowledge of the contemporary International Relations picture, in order to comprehend the increasingly complex array of the International Society, which has been submitted to serious and profound transformations over the last two decades. The political, economic, social and cultural globalization has transformed the world into a “global village”, and has imposed itself has an autonomous study object of International Relations.

Specific Aims/Objectives

Comprehension of International Relations emergence and evolution as a specific field of Social and Human Sciences, the understanding of the linkage between democracy and globalization, and the suitable analysis of the leading actors, the essential factors and techniques of International Relations.

Skills to be acquired

The contents of the program are designed to equip students with specific expertise in the field of International Relations. The teaching of the matters specified in the program allows students to provide the methods necessary to envisage international phenomena and explain them by analyzing the behavior of actors, factors and techniques of the International System.

Teaching Procedures

Own learning methodology based on participatory classes, personal interventions, oral and written, and group discussions, reflection on concrete cases of international relations in order to develop their capacity for analysis, work together to develop their communication skills and persuasion; assignment of texts available to students in the moodle.

Evaluation Type

The evaluation system is carried out according to the rules defined in the General Regulations Assessment of Knowledge of the Lusíada University. In this sense, is taken into account the continuous assessment, including attendance, participation, completion of works, mini-tests, etc.
