Main Aims/Objectives
The UC intends to constitute itself as an introduction to general and special psychopathology.
Intends to provide students with basic knowledge and general skills at the theoretical-conceptual in the different domains of psychopathology, thus allowing them to know, differentiate and integrate the main concepts, clinical frameworks and approaches of this discipline.
Specific Aims/Objectives
The aim is to approach the classic authors and also focus on aspects of Psychopathology associated with causality, psychopathological semiology, classification systems (DSM / CID) and therapeutic relationship. It intends to stimulate the critical reflexive capacity and the recognition of the ethical implications of clinical activity in this domain.
Skills to be acquired
- Know about psychopathological phenomena, clinical presentation and corresponding diagnoses;
- Carry out the assessment of mental status;
- Acquire, in the face of a clinical case practical skills to identify the present symptoms and their diagnosis.
- Access the importance of reflection and self-criticism in the ethical management of the multiple situations that one faces in professional life.
Teaching Procedures
The classes operate in an open exposure regime supported by audiovisual media and active student participation, encouraged to get involved in the discussion of the topics. The practical component includes group work, brainstorming, role-play and, above all, the analysis and discussion of clinical cases.

1. Historical approach to psychopathology; The classics of Psychopathology.
2. From normal to pathological in Psychopathology.
3. The grouping of disturbances, models and classification systems.
4. Nosological groups and their characterization:
4.1. Anxiety disorders
4.2. Disorders of adaptation
4.3. Depressive disorders
4.4. Bipolar disorders and related disorders
4.5. Obsessive-compulsive disorders and related disorders
4.6. Trauma-related disorders and stressors
4.7. Dissociative disorders
4.8. Substance-related disorders and addictive disorders
4.9. Eating and eating disorders
4.10. Sleep-wake disorders
4.11. Personality disorders
4.12. Schizophrenia spectrum disorders and other psychotic disorders
4.13. Sexual dysfunctions. Gender dysphoria. Paraphilic disorders
4.14. Somatic symptom disorders and related disorders.
5. General psychopathology: disturbances in different areas of functioning
6. Differential diagnosis and its importance
Evaluation Type
Continuous assessment is carried out through two written tests.
Elements related to attendance, punctuality and participation in classes are taken into account.
