Main Aims/Objectives
This curricular unit addresses the development of scientific research in the field of criminology, exploring the use of quantitative and qualitative methodologies and the importance of using mixed methodologies.
Specific Aims/Objectives
- To provide students with basic skills in the design and planning of researches, both of a quantitative and qualitative natures, applied to the phenomena studied by Criminology;
- To provide students with skills to apply the different methods, both in terms of their design, as well as the data collection and analysis;
- To allow students to critically analyze works produced in the field of criminology, both quantitative and qualitative.
Skills to be acquired
- Understanding the logic of scientific research;
- Knowledge of the main research designs, methods of data collection and analysis, both quantitative and qualitative;
- Skills of methodological analysis of scientific works;
- Planning a scientific investigation, using quantitative or qualitative methodologies, theoretically grounding your options;
- Development of quantitative and qualitative data collection instruments.
