Main Aims/Objectives
In this curricular unit, various forms of victimization will be addressed, with a focus on current situations. The main features of these forms of victimization will be explored, as well as the intervention principles and support structures available to victims.
Specific Aims/Objectives
i. Acquire up-to-date knowledge about the different forms of victimization, including specific characteristics, risk factors for victimization and the consequences for victims.
ii. Critically analyze the intervention and support strategies and mechanisms available to victims and evaluate the effectiveness of these strategies.
iii. Critically reflect on the ethical assumptions underlying the development of research in the field of victimology.
Skills to be acquired
i. Identify the different forms of victimization and also the physical, psychological and social impact of victimization on victims, as well as on the communities in which it occurs.
ii. Identify different intervention mechanisms, including counselling, psychological support, legal support and referral to additional resources.
iii. Understand the essential ethical principles in victim research as well as the ethical issues that arise when dealing with vulnerable victims.
Teaching Procedures
The teaching methodology adopted in this course is composed of a combination of theoretical and practical classes, providing a comprehensive approach for students. During theoretical classes, the syllabus taught will be based on a careful selection of relevant literature in the area. In practical classes, students will have the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge acquired through practical exercises.

5. Victimization in the refugee context
Evaluation Type
1. Distributed Assessment: Two written points will be made, lasting 50 minutes each, throughout the semester, to assess the students´ progress.
2. Final Assessment: The final assessment will be carried out through a frequency, lasting 2 hours, in which the contents studied during the semester will be addressed.
This assessment approach combines ongoing verification of student performance with end-of-semester comprehensive assessment.
Teaching Resources
i. Use of audiovisual resources to enrich lessons, including videos, multimedia presentations and relevant visual aids.
ii. Analysis of selected scientific texts, promoting critical reading and in-depth understanding of the topics covered in the curricular unit.
iii. Realization of practical exercises that involve the application of the learned concepts, allowing the students a practical and concrete experience related to the theoretical contents.
