Main Aims/Objectives

The course aims to introduce students to i) the developmental prevention model of antisocial behavior in children and youth; ii) the individual, family, and environmental programs developed in this field across multiple contexts and populations.

Specific Aims/Objectives

The Course aims:

- To consolidate and deepen knowledge about prevention models for antisocial behaviors in children, youth, and families.
- To deepen understanding of the key risk factors and protective factors for antisocial behavior.
- To familiarize students with this domain´s scientifically evaluated prevention programs and techniques.

Skills to be acquired

By the end of the Course, it is expected that students will have developed:

- Skills in analyzing and discussing relevant scientific literature.
- Knowledge of the theoretical rationales underlying different prevention models and the strategies and methodologies for preventing antisocial behavior.
- Practical skills to conceptualize and implement prevention strategies with children, youth, and families.

Teaching Procedures

The course consists of both theoretical and practical classes. The theoretical classes focus on the theoretical exposition of content, which is then applied in practical exercises during tutorial sessions. The teaching methodology includes practical exercises in small groups.

Programme

1. Developmental prevention/focused risk-based prevention: concepts and principles.
2. Risk factors and protective factors of antisocial behavior.
3. Prevention programs for antisocial behavior:
- Principles, theoretical rationales, and strategies implemented in prevention programs for antisocial behavior.
- Individual programs: preschool intellectual enrichment programs and social skills training programs.
- Family-level programs: parenting education programs and parental skills training programs.
- Environmental-level programs: peer intervention programs and school-based intervention programs.
- Motivation and resistance.

Evaluation Type

The continuous assessment consists of two written tests and a practical exercise.
