Main Aims/Objectives
Provide a conceptual framework for analysis of international governance; Understand the structures and processes of international governance
Specific Aims/Objectives
Analyze and evaluate international governance and decision making mechanisms; Deepen analytical and research skills.
Skills to be acquired
Learning outcomes of the course unit At the end of the course unit the student should be able to analyze and discuss the main phenomena of international governance; it should be able to apply the conceptual framework of international governance to various case studies; must be able to identify and use sources of academic information relevant to this thematic area; and must be able to develop collaborative work that reflects an international critical perspective.
Teaching Procedures
The lectures will be provided by the teacher and practical classes will be the analysis of scientific texts and debates by the students.

Part I: Global Governance Conceptualization
1. What is global governance?
2. Why do we need global governance? Functionalist approaches and the theory of public goods
Part II: The Architecture of Global Governance
1. Multilateralism and multilateral institutions. Practical cases.
2. International law and network governance. Practical cases.
Part III: How is Global Governance Defined?
1. Definition of the international agenda. Practical cases.
2. Capacity development. Practical cases.
3. Creation of interchange norms and standards. Practical cases.
4. Settlement of disputes. Practical cases.
5. Application of international decisions. Practical cases.
Part IV: Critical Debates on Global Governance
1. Criticism of neoliberal governance. Debate
2. Global governance, world assembly, world government. Debate.
3. Governance, democracy and biopolitics. Debate.
