Main Aims/Objectives

The UC aims to introduce students to the field of clinical criminology, object, concepts, theoretical and methodological perspectives.

Specific Aims/Objectives

- To frame clinical criminology in general criminology
- To understand the emergency conditions and the current developments of clinical criminology, at theoretical, methodological and applied levels.
- To identify the distinctive elements of the clinical approach
-Know the limits and implications of clinical criminology and the ethical and deontological issues that its practice raises.

Skills to be acquired

- the necessary knowledge to understand the clinical approach in criminology, its specificities and theoretical and methodological frameworks.

- basic clinical skills, analysis and planning necessary for evaluation and intervention, taking into account the limits and implications of clinical practice in the field of criminology

Teaching Procedures

The presentation of the programmatic contents is combined with the analysis of the relevant literature and with the accomplishment of exercises of application related to the topics taught.

I- From General Criminology to Clinical Criminology
1. Delimitation of the object and specificities of the clinical approach in the criminological field
2. The emergence and crisis of clinical criminology

II-Concepts and models

1. Dangerousness and criminal personality
1.1.Conceptual and theoretical framework
1.2. From dangerousness to risk: an historical and critical approach

2. Models: psychoanalytic, phenomenological, humanistic and cognitive-behavioral

III- The clinical approach
1. Understanding and Interpreting
2.Process and dynamics of psycho-criminological assessment
3. Models and tools for the clinical observation and assessment
