Main Aims/Objectives

- Acquire knowledge and skills about International Politics to develop advanced interpretation of concepts and key moments of the contemporary international system.
- Analyze certain political episodes and their repercussions, as well as the current challenges of globalization and the main actors in international politics.

Specific Aims/Objectives

- Provide students with knowledge about the main problems, developments and trends of contemporary international politics, in terms of social, economic and security; geostrategic actors and new issues on the international agenda.

Skills to be acquired

- Contribute to the acquisition and consolidation of the interpretation of international political changes, focusing the analysis on geopolitical and geostrategic contexts.
- Acquire the appropriate skills to identify, select and describe relevant information within the scope of International Politics, in light of essential concepts in preparing the dissertation.

Teaching Procedures

- Appreciation and discussion of specialized literature on the topics under analysis with the aim of consolidating knowledge and developing students´ oral and argumentative capacity, evaluating interventions in class.

3. Globalization: security threats; challenges and trends on the international agenda.
4. The role of international organizations.

6. Regional Blocs.
7. Portugal in the 21st century.

Evaluation Type

Seminar regime will take into account attendance, participation in classes and 1 test.

Teaching Resources

Analysis of specialized literature (periodical publications, documents and other relevant sources). Audiovisual means whenever appropriate.
