Main Aims/Objectives

To know and reflect on contemporary criminological issues of a transnational and complex nature, with a special focus on human trafficking, terrorism and cybercrime.

Specific Aims/Objectives

- Understand the challenges involved in human trafficking, terrorism and cybercrime;
- Know the conceptualization of human trafficking, terrorism and cybercrime, as well as their main typologies and characteristics;
- Understand the application of criminological theories to human trafficking, terrorism and cybercrime.

Skills to be acquired

Students are expected to:
- Develop skills for analysis and reflection on current criminological issues of a transnational and complex nature;
- Understand the application of criminological theories to these contemporary phenomena;
- Know the main empirical research methodologies on these phenomena and develop application skills;
- Develop skills in research and analysis of relevant scientific literature in this scope.

Teaching Procedures

Combination of the expository and interrogative methods, promoting the student´s involvement in
the discussion and reflection on the exposed contents, accompanied by the realization of
assignments and practical exercises.
Tutorial classes are mostly dedicated to monitoring and guiding students in the preparation of a
written assignment on one topic of the program.
