Provide students with the possibility of a profound reflection about fundamental issues of the Course

Encourage research and the ability to problematize and relate theoretical issues to the resolution of practical hypotheses.
Acquire in-depth knowledge about the new manifestations of the criminal phenomenon and social control.

Teaching Procedures

Oral exposure classes; Oral presentation of the elaborated reports and subsequent discussion.

Programme

1. The evolution of criminology and changing paradigms: Current approaches in criminology

2. The new manifestations of the criminal phenomenon and social control:
2.1.The globalization of crime and its deterritorialization. The relationship between the global and regional level of the phenomenon.
2.2.The current trends in crime: prevalence, incidence and ways of mitigation.
2.3. Topical topics: corruption; organized crime; economic and financial crime; cybercrime; trafficking in drugs and firearms; trafficking in human beings; terrorism, radicalization and extremist violence.

3. Security issues: theoretical models, empirical and political studies.

4. The scientific assessment of criminal and security policies. The movement of evaluating policies and practices ("evaluation research" and the growing interaction between criminological research and action.

Oral discussion of report and final exam.
