Main Aims/Objectives
Understand the structure, methodology, and main theoretical frameworks of criminological thinking
Specific Aims/Objectives
- Understand the main criminological theories and their relationship with criminological research;
- Know the process and main objects of investigation in Criminology;
- Understand the relationship between Criminology and the criminal justice system;
- Understand the main areas of intervention in Criminology.
Skills to be acquired
- Know the fundamental concepts and theories of Criminology and its application to the explanation of the criminal phenomenon;
- Identify and explain the main characteristics of the methodological process in Criminology.
Teaching Procedures
Combination of the expository and interrogative methods, promoting the student´s involvement in the discussion and reflection on the exposed contents, accompanied by the realization of assignments and practical exercises.
Tutorial classes are mostly dedicated to monitoring and guiding students in the preparation of a written assignment on one of the criminological theories and its application in a recent empirical study.

IV - Current topics in Criminology
Evaluation Type
- Continuous evaluation: 1 written assignment and its oral presentation and defense.
- Final evaluation: exam.
